Theological Focus

This Sunday marks the beginning of a multi-week journey through the sixth chapter of John, often called the 'Bread of Life' discourse. In the heat of the summer season, the liturgy invites us to consider our deepest hungers. It is a time to move from the physical signs of God's provision to the spiritual reality of Christ’s sustaining presence.

Scriptural Connection

The feeding of the five thousand in John 6 demonstrates Christ’s abundance in the face of perceived scarcity. When the disciples see only a lack of resources, Jesus sees an opportunity for divine multiplication. This narrative invites us to bring our 'five loaves and two fish'—our small and seemingly insufficient offerings—to the table, trusting that in God’s hands, they are always enough to feed the multitude.

Preach on the 'Economics of Grace.' Contrast the world’s fear of scarcity with the Gospel’s promise of abundance.
