Lectionary Meaning

Theological Focus

Trinity Sunday celebrates the mystery of God’s internal communal life. It is a day to reflect on the relational nature of the Divine—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—as the foundation of all existence. This feast reminds us that we are created by and for a God who is, in essence, a community of love.

Scriptural Connection

The creation account in Genesis 1 depicts a God who speaks order into chaos and life into the void. The plural language of the creation narrative hints at the collaborative, life-giving dance of the Trinity. We see a God who is not a solitary monarch but a relational Creator who invites us into the ongoing work of sustaining the world.

Sermon Ideas

Avoid dry abstractions; instead, preach the Trinity as an invitation to relationship. Use the creation story to show how we are made in the image of a God who is inherently social and creative. The sermon should encourage the congregation to reflect this divine image through their own relationships and care for the created order.
